Help & User Guide

Everything you need to know to get the most out of TheyreMine.

TheyreMine is the only personal tool you need to keep your digital life organised. Manage your bookmarks — organised in folders, searchable, shareable — and your contacts — a full address book with groups, multiple e-mails, phone numbers, and import/export — all in a single place, under one account. No juggling between apps. Everything is private, fast, and always available.

Bookmarks

1 · Getting started

After creating a free account you immediately get access to your bookmark page and your personal address book — two powerful tools under a single login.

  1. Register with your e-mail address and a password.
  2. You are taken to your bookmark page. It starts empty.
  3. Use the + Folder button to create your first folder, then + Bookmark to add links inside it.
  4. Switch to Contacts at any time using the nav links at the top.
  5. Use the Page ▾ menu in the top-right to rename, publish, or manage your bookmark pages.

2 · Pages

A page is a self-contained collection of folders and bookmarks. You can have multiple pages — for example one for work, one for personal reading, one for a project.

Action How
Create a pagePage ▾ → New page
Rename / edit a pagePage ▾ → Edit page
Switch between pagesClick the page name in the dropdown next to the logo
Publish / unpublishPage ▾ → Publish page or Unpublish
Delete a pagePage ▾ → Delete page (only visible when you have more than one page)

Deleting a page permanently removes all its folders and bookmarks. This cannot be undone.

3 · Folders

Folders group related bookmarks together. Each page can have as many folders as you like.

  • Add a folder — click the + Folder button at the top of the page.
  • Edit a folder — right-click (or click the ⋯ button that appears on hover) on the folder header → Edit.
  • Delete a folder — right-click the folder header → Delete. All bookmarks inside are also deleted.
  • Background colour — set a custom colour for the folder header when editing.
  • Show descriptions — toggle in the folder edit form to display each bookmark's description under its title.

Folders can be reordered by dragging their header.

4 · Bookmarks

A bookmark is a link with an optional title, description, and appearance settings.

  • Add a bookmark — click + Bookmark inside any folder.
  • Edit a bookmark — right-click (or ⋯ on hover) → Edit.
  • Delete a bookmark — right-click → Delete.
  • Copy link — right-click → Copy link to copy the URL to your clipboard.
Field Notes
URLRequired. Must start with http:// or https://.
TitleDefaults to the domain name if left empty.
DescriptionShown as a tooltip on hover, and under the title when Show descriptions is enabled on the folder.
Background colourHighlights the bookmark row. Clear to remove.
Open in new tabOpens the link in a new browser tab.
Show faviconDisplays the website's icon to the left of the title.

5 · Sub-bookmarks

Any bookmark can have sub-bookmarks — a second level of links nested underneath it. Useful when a main site has several key sub-pages (e.g. a news site with Technology, Science, and Culture sections).

  • Add a sub-bookmark — right-click a bookmark → Add sub-bookmark.
  • Open sub-bookmarks — click the chevron (›) on the right of the parent bookmark; it points down while the sub-bookmarks are open.
  • Edit or delete — right-click a sub-bookmark in the popover → Edit or Delete.
  • Copy link — right-click a sub-bookmark → Copy link.
  • Sub-bookmarks support URL, title, description, and Open in new tab — not background colour or favicon.

7 · Reordering

Drag and drop to rearrange your content:

  • Folders — drag a folder header to move it.
  • Bookmarks — drag a bookmark row within its folder to reorder it, or into another folder at the position you want.
  • Sub-bookmarks — open the list with the chevron, then drag a sub-bookmark up or down within it, or out onto a folder to make it a regular bookmark.
  • Into another sub-bookmark list — while dragging, rest the pointer on another bookmark's chevron (›) for a moment: its sub-bookmarks open beside it, and you drop at the position you choose. A regular bookmark becomes a sub-bookmark the same way, unless it has sub-bookmarks of its own.

The new order is saved automatically as soon as you drop. Changed your mind? Click Undo in the message that confirms the move, within a few seconds.

On mobile, press and hold a row for a moment before dragging — this prevents accidental drags while scrolling.

8 · Importing from your browser

Two formats are accepted:

  • Netscape HTML — universal export format supported by every major browser.
  • Firefox JSON — native Firefox backup (preserves full folder hierarchy).

Step 1 — Export from your browser

🟡 Google Chrome
  1. Click ⋮ → Bookmarks & lists → Bookmark manager (Ctrl+Shift+O / ⌘+Shift+O).
  2. Click ⋮ in the Bookmark manager toolbar → Export bookmarks.
🔵 Microsoft Edge
  1. Click … → Favorites (Ctrl+Shift+O) → ⋯ menu → Export favorites.
🦊 Mozilla Firefox — HTML export
  1. Bookmarks → Manage bookmarks (Ctrl+Shift+O, on a Mac ⌘⇧O).
  2. Import and Backup → Export Bookmarks to HTML…
🦊 Mozilla Firefox — JSON backup (full hierarchy)
  1. Bookmarks → Manage bookmarks → Import and Backup → Backup… → save .json.
🧭 Apple Safari
  1. Recent versions: File → Export Browsing Data to File…, tick Bookmarks, save, then open the saved .zip and import the bookmarks HTML file inside.
  2. Older versions: File → Export → Bookmarks…
🔴 Opera
  1. Opera logo menu → Bookmarks → Import / Export → Export bookmarks as HTML.

Step 2 — Import into TheyreMine

  1. Go to Page ▾ → Import bookmarks.
  2. Click Choose file and select the exported file (.html or .json).
  3. Choose whether to add to the current page or a new page.
  4. Click Import. Folders and bookmarks are created automatically.

Only valid URLs are imported. Nested sub-folders are flattened to the top level.

9 · Publishing & sharing

By default your bookmark page is private. Publishing makes it accessible to anyone with the link, without requiring an account.

  • Go to Page ▾ → Publish page to make it public.
  • Your public URL looks like: https://theyremine.com/bookmarks/42/your-page-title
  • Visitors can browse your folders and click links, but cannot edit anything.
  • To make it private again: Page ▾ → Unpublish.

Published pages are also listed on the Latest page so others can discover them.

Contacts

10 · Your address book

What makes TheyreMine genuinely different is that your address book lives right alongside your bookmarks — both under the same account, always a single click away. No need for a separate contacts app: the people you know and the links you save are finally in one place.

Each contact can store a name, company, job title, multiple e-mail addresses and phone numbers, a postal address, a website, a birthday, and free-form notes. Contacts can be organised into colour-coded groups and searched instantly.

Contacts are always private — only you can see them when logged in.

11 · Adding a contact

  1. Click the + Add Contact button in the toolbar.
  2. A panel slides in from the right. Fill in at least a first name, last name, or company — everything else is optional.
  3. Click Save. The new contact appears immediately.

There is no limit on the number of contacts.

12 · Contact fields

Field Notes
First name / Last nameEither field alone is fine. Together they form the display name.
CompanyUsed as the display name when both name fields are empty.
Job titleRole or position at the company.
E-mail addresses Multiple addresses, each with a label: home, work, or other. Click + Add email / × to manage rows. The first is the primary.
Phone numbers Multiple numbers labelled mobile, home, work, or other. The first is shown in the list.
WebsiteURL starting with http:// or https://.
GroupAssign to a colour-coded group. See Groups.
BirthdayOptional date shown in the detail view.
AddressStreet lines, city, state/province, postal code, country — all optional.
NotesFree-form text of any length.

13 · Viewing & editing contacts

Click any contact row to open its detail panel on the right. The panel has two modes:

  • View mode — full contact information. Clickable e-mail addresses open your mail client; phone numbers open your dialler on mobile. Three buttons appear at the bottom: Export vCard, Edit, and Delete.
  • Edit mode — click Edit (or + Add Contact for new entries) to open the form. Click Save to apply or Cancel to discard.

Press Esc to close the panel without saving.

14 · Groups

Groups are colour-coded categories shown as filter chips in the bar just below the search toolbar. Use them to separate friends from colleagues, family from clients.

Action How
Create a groupClick + Group in the chip bar. Enter a name and pick a colour.
Rename / change colourClick ⋯ on the group chip → Edit.
Assign a contactOpen the contact in edit mode → choose from the Group dropdown.
Filter by groupClick any group chip — the list instantly narrows to that group.
Show allClick the All chip at the left of the bar.
Show ungroupedClick the Ungrouped chip.
Delete a groupClick ⋯ on the group chip → Delete. Contacts are not deleted — they become ungrouped.

16 · Exporting a contact (vCard)

Download any contact as a .vcf file (vCard 3.0), importable into Apple Contacts, Google Contacts, Outlook, and virtually any other address book application.

  1. Click a contact to open its detail panel.
  2. Click Export vCard.
  3. Your browser downloads a .vcf file named after the contact.
  4. Double-click the file to add the contact to your device's address book.

17 · Importing contacts

Click Import in the toolbar to bulk-import contacts from another application. Two file formats are accepted:

  • .vcf — vCard format (Apple Contacts, Google, Outlook).
  • .csv — spreadsheet format from Google Contacts or Outlook.

Step 1 — Export from your contacts app

🍎 Apple Contacts (macOS)
  1. Open the Contacts app. Press ⌘A to select all.
  2. File → Export → Export vCard… and save the .vcf file.
  3. To export a selection only: hold ⌘ to pick specific contacts, then use the same menu.
📱 Apple Contacts (iPhone / iPad)
  1. Single contact: open it → scroll down → Share Contact → save the .vcf to Files.
  2. Full export: sign in to iCloud.com → Contacts, choose Actions → Select All Contacts, then Share → Export vCard.
🟡 Google Contacts
  1. Go to contacts.google.com → click Export in the sidebar.
  2. Choose which contacts and a format: vCard (recommended) or Google CSV.
  3. Click Export and save the file.
🔵 Microsoft Outlook / Microsoft 365
  1. Open Outlook → File → Open & Export → Import/Export.
  2. Choose Export to a file → Comma Separated Values.
  3. Select Contacts as the source folder and save the .csv file.
On Outlook on the web: People → Manage contacts → Export contacts.

Step 2 — Import into TheyreMine

  1. On the Contacts page, click Import in the toolbar.
  2. Click Choose file and select your .vcf or .csv file.
  3. Click Import. The list refreshes and shows how many contacts were created.

Contacts missing both a name and a company are skipped. Duplicate detection is not performed — importing the same file twice creates duplicates.

18 · Deleting contacts & groups

Deleting a contact

  1. Click the contact to open its detail panel.
  2. Click Delete at the bottom and confirm.

All of the contact's e-mail addresses and phone numbers are also removed. This cannot be undone.

Deleting a group

  1. Click ⋯ on the group chip in the filter bar → Delete and confirm.

Deleting a group does not delete its contacts — they become ungrouped.

Feeds

19 · Your feed reader

Feeds collects the latest articles from the sites you follow, so you can catch up in one place instead of visiting each site.

The reader has three panes:

  • Left — your feeds, with the number of unread items next to each.
  • Middle — the items of the selected feed, newest first.
  • Right — the selected item's title, date, author and summary, with a link to the full article.

Without an account you can browse a set of demo feeds. Stars and read marks you make there are not saved.

20 · Subscribing to a feed

  1. Type a site's address into the box at the top of the Feeds page — slashdot.org is enough — or paste a feed's full address.
  2. Click Find feeds. TheyreMine looks for the feeds the site publishes and lists them, each with its type, number of items and the date of its newest item.
  3. Click Subscribe next to the one you want. Its items appear straight away.

Feeds are looked for in this order: the address itself, the feeds the site declares in its pages, common feed addresses such as /feed, and finally the news sitemap the site lists for search engines. A result marked stale has had no new item for more than 30 days — the site has probably stopped updating it.

TheyreMine reads RSS 2.0, RSS 1.0 (RDF), Atom, and news sitemaps (the news.xml files many news sites publish for search engines — useful for sites that no longer offer RSS).

To find a site's feed, look for an RSS or "feed" link on the site, or try addresses such as /feed, /rss or /sitemap/news.xml. Nothing is ever subscribed until you click Subscribe.

21 · Reading

  • Click a feed, then an item to read its summary. Opening an item marks it read.
  • Use the All, Unread and Starred tabs above the list to filter it.
  • Click the ☆ next to an item to star it, and Mark unread to bring it back.
  • Click Open article ↗ to read the full article on the publisher's site, in a new tab.
  • The ✓ button above the list marks every item in the feed read; the ↻ button checks the feed for new items now.
  • Some feeds, such as news sitemaps, publish no summary — open the article to read it.

Keyboard shortcuts

j / kNext / previous item
oOpen the article in a new tab
sStar or unstar
mMark read or unread

On a phone the reader shows one pane at a time; use the ← links to go back.

22 · Organising feeds

Switch the left pane between two views:

  • By site — feeds are grouped by the site they come from, automatically. A site that publishes several sections (Politics, World…) shows them together under one heading.
  • By category — feeds are grouped by colour-coded categories you create, such as "News", "Tech" or "Work". Click + Category to create one, and the pencil next to a category to rename, recolour or delete it.

Feed settings

Select a feed and click the ⚙ button above its items to change its title, its section name, its category, and how often it is checked for new items — or to unsubscribe.

Deleting a category does not unsubscribe its feeds — they become uncategorised. Unsubscribing deletes the feed's items.

23 · Feed health badges

Some sites stop updating a feed without removing it, so it keeps showing the same old articles. TheyreMine watches the date of each feed's newest item and labels feeds that need attention:

quietNo new items for more than 7 days.
staleNo new items for more than 30 days — the feed has probably been abandoned.
failingThe last three checks failed. Select the feed to see the error.

24 · Updates & how long items are kept

  • Feeds are checked for new items automatically, every 30 minutes by default. You can change this per feed in its settings, or click ↻ to check right away.
  • Items are kept for 30 days after they were published, then deleted automatically — including starred items. To keep an article for longer, open it and save it as a bookmark.

25 · Importing & exporting (OPML)

OPML is the file every feed reader uses to move a list of subscriptions. Use it to bring your feeds from another reader, or to take them elsewhere.

Importing

  1. Export an OPML file from your current reader (often under Settings → Export or Subscriptions).
  2. On the Feeds page, click Import OPML at the bottom of the left pane and choose the file.
  • Each folder in the file becomes a category; an existing category with the same name is reused.
  • Feeds you already follow are skipped, so importing the same file twice adds nothing.
  • New feeds show a pending badge until their first update, within 15 minutes.
  • A file can hold up to 500 feeds and be up to 1 MB. The file itself is not kept.

Exporting

Click Export OPML to download all your feeds, with their categories as folders.

General

26 · Tips & tricks

  • Use background colours on bookmarks to create visual groupings or highlight priority links within a folder.
  • Use sub-bookmarks to keep folders tidy — one parent entry per site, sub-entries for its key sections.
  • Use multiple pages to separate contexts: work, hobbies, or a page to share publicly.
  • The favicon option helps identify links at a glance when a folder is large.
  • Add a description to folders and enable Show descriptions to turn your bookmark page into a mini resource guide.
  • Right-click any bookmark or folder header for the quickest access to edit, delete, and copy-link actions.
  • On desktop, use the Filter box + Tab for fully keyboard-driven navigation: type to filter, Tab to the first result, Tab again to advance through them.
  • Use contact groups with distinct colours to tell at a glance whether a contact is a colleague, friend, or client.
  • The vCard export makes it easy to share a single contact — just download the file and attach it to an e-mail.
  • Import your entire address book at once with a .vcf file — hundreds of contacts in seconds.
  • In the feed reader, open the Unread tab and press j repeatedly to catch up on a feed without touching the mouse.
  • You don't need to know a feed's address: type the site's name, such as cnn.com, and click Find feeds — it even finds news sitemaps for sites without RSS.
